One day down in my new ride. I'm loving it. I am not traveling main highways for parts of the trip, though, and I couldn't fight down an occasional acidic panic in my throat when I had no cell coverage for hours and the nearest residents available for help in emergencies might or might not know what a telephone is. I felt very lucky to not be in the general vicinity of lots of trees and a river.
I have not gotten the hang of the navigation system yet, making full use of my Rand McNally atlas. I'm averaging about 43 mpg, which should get better as the car breaks in, but which is still pretty kickass when you're accustomed to 16 mpg. It's 6:30 a.m.; I have my iPod plugged, my bluetooth hooked up for hands-free talking, and my stainless steel reusable bottle filled with Elko, Nevada, tap water, and I'm ready for Day 2 of my adventure with Pru. (I'm thinking we will visit a carwash, though, because there seemed to be a veritable plethora of insect life in the desert yesterday.)
I promise I will share more of my fun while in Oregon in another post, but I'm in "eat, drive, fall into bed exhausted" mode right now.
Good post. I like to read your posts. well written. thank you.
