Photo Hunt Saturday--Classic
In honor of my mommy, who just got her new liver. These photos were taken in July 2006 with our doggies. They are classic examples of my mom's loving nature; no one deserves a new lease on life as much as she does!
For those who don't know, or who want more details, my mom has (had?) an auto-immune disorder called Primary Biliary Cirrhosis (a misleading name, as cirrhosis is the final stage of the disease and comprises only a tiny portion of the complications). Her body was literally attacking and killing her own liver. She was diagnosed in 1991. She recently spent 15 days at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, having a myriad of tests to finally be put on the Organ Transplant List. She was put at the top of the list due to a newly developed pulmonary problem, but they still expected a wait of 2-6 months. After only 12 days on the actual list, her liver came. That is an amazingly fast procurement! Her transplant lasted about 5 hours, and she is doing very well; the surgeon said he couldn't have ordered a better-matched liver.
So, sign those Organ Donor cards, and tell your family; it really does make the difference between life or death for someone else out there! Here's to you, Mom!

I'm agreed with you to encourage people to donate organ. In Singapore, organ donations are made compulsory (with some exceptions). I think is good policy.

Good to see your mum is doing so well, the calendar i shot a few weeks ago was to raise awarness of organ donation. I do think though that it should be optional that you join, not everyone is a donor unless you opt out. That is what they are trying to do here.

That's a wonderful idea for this week, Lori.
All my best wishes for your mom and all your family!

Oh Lori, what a beautiful story. I didn't do PH this week because of being so behind in my work because of being sick for two weeks, so I was more than happy to come see what's up. This post brought tears to my eyes. Your mother is so young and beautiful. What a blessed Thanksgiving and Christmas you will all have this year. My prayers are with you all.
PS: I have had a donor card for over 20 years!!

Lori, your mom is a beautiful person, in all meanings of this word. I wish her a quickest recovery and all the best to her and to you all.
I have that donor card here for 27 (I think) years, carry it in my wallet all the time.

Wow that was fast. I hope she is recovering well and looking forward to a new lease of life.
I agree 10o% on organ donor cards. I think everyone should carry one. If any part of my body could help someone else after my death then they are welcome to it

I was so happy to hear this news--and these photos of your mom are just wonderful. What a sweet and happy spirit she seems to have. Looking forward to hearing more updates as she continues to recover!
Have you heard about the movement for "presumptive organ donation," in which rather than opting in, people could opt out of having their organs shared with those who need them? I think it's a great idea--what a wonderful way to make a gift of yourself when your body is no longer being used. :)
